12+ Months Before: Start with the Basics
- Set Your Budget: Determine your overall budget and allocate funds to the essentials—venue, food, attire, etc. Starting a budget spreadsheet now will help keep things on track.
- Draft Your Guest List: Have a rough guest list to estimate the size of the venue needed. This will likely change, but an estimate is essential.
- Choose a Wedding Date: Pick a few potential dates to discuss with family and friends to avoid major conflicts.
- Book Your Venue: Venues often book up quickly, so secure your location as soon as possible.
- Hire Key Vendors: Secure high-priority vendors such as your wedding planner (if desired), photographer, videographer, and caterer. Many top-tier vendors book over a year in advance.
10-11 Months Before: Design and Details
- Select a Theme and Color Palette: Decide on a theme or style, and create a mood board for inspiration. This helps align vendors with your vision.
- Find Your Wedding Dress: Begin dress shopping early to account for fittings and alterations.
- Book Entertainment: Secure a band, DJ, or other entertainment for your ceremony and reception. For special acts or unique performers, early booking is essential.
8-9 Months Before: Invitations and Attire
- Order Save-the-Dates: Send out save-the-dates to give guests ample notice, especially if it’s a destination wedding.
- Choose Attire for the Wedding Party: Select attire and colors for bridesmaids, groomsmen, and other key members of the wedding party.
- Create a Wedding Website Or Download The Wedding App: Provide information on accommodations, travel, and schedules for your guests. Include your registry links and RSVP options for a seamless experience.
- Book Hair + Makeup Artists
6-7 Months Before: Florals, Food, and Favors
- Plan Your Menu: Work with your caterer to finalize a menu. If possible, schedule a tasting to ensure it meets your expectations.
- Order Invitations: Start designing and ordering invitations. Ensure they include RSVP details and any specific requests for guests.
